Calisthenics Park Brighton - Wild park
A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon a calisthenics park in Brighton. It has various fitness equipment, including pull-up bars, wall bars, dip bars, and cardio machines. The park itself is great. Everything looks new, and surprisingly, the equipment is not broken or damaged yet. Let’s say that is a fitness lover's dream. Or so it should be.
In fact, there is an evident issue: it is a ghost town.
Last week, I chatted with two guys who were training there; this was the conversation ( in short ) :
“Hey guys, how long have you been training in this park? “
“Oh, we discovered it like three days ago. “
“ Cool, have you just moved nearby? “
“No, we’ve been living here for years. “
I've heard similar stories from many others.
I strongly believe this park has the potential to be a thriving fitness hub, and personally, I don’t know the reason behind its underutilization. Could it be due to a lack of promotion, or perhaps it is so hidden that it is not easy to find?
However, instead of criticizing it, I want to share my positive experience and promote it in the hope that more people will use it for their workouts.
PARK FEATURES
EQUIPMENT
When visiting a playground, you typically find a limited set of pull-up, parallel, and wall bars. However, the wild calisthenics park stands out due to its wide variety of equipment, which can make your workout both enjoyable and effective.
CARDIO MACHINES
You'll find three cardio machines:
Cross trainer
Stationary bicycle
Arm bike
Each machine is equipped with a monitor that tracks your speed and calories burned but also allows you to adjust the exercise intensity.
STRENGTH MACHINES and EQUIPMENT
An additional way to encourage people to come to this park is that it provides weights and machines, which can significantly contribute to your fitness journey and overall health.
Here are some of the equipment available:
Rower machine: great if you want to target back and biceps.
Set of Kettlebells: attached to a post, where you can do various exercises
Hyperextension bench: a piece of exercise equipment used to strengthen the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings
Leg raise machine: to strengthen the abdominal muscles and hip flexors.
Inclined bench
BARS
Bars are essential equipment for bodyweight training, enabling a wide range of exercises. They come in various forms and are designed to accommodate different exercises.
Pull-up bar: This bar is slightly thinner in width than the other bars in the park, allowing for a better grip.
Parallel bars: Dips, swinging, or just holding onto them are great ways to work on your upper body strength with this type of bar.
Low bars (at different heights): These are designed for specific exercises or younger children as they don't require high elevation.
Wall bars: A versatile piece of equipment that is useful for strength training, as well as for stretching and mobility exercises.
Monkey bars: These bars are not just for kids! They provide a fun and challenging way to improve motor skills as you grasp, swing, and move from bar to bar. They can also be used for strength exercises, adding a dynamic element to your workouts.
PARKOUR EQUIPMENT
The playground integrates parkour equipment designed for beginners or kids, but it can still be used to improve skills, strength, and agility in a safe and controlled environment.
